We study the molecular genetics and fundamental biochemical pathways of non-model human pathogens. Using interdisciplinary approaches, we identify new targets to exploit for drug development to circumvent antimicrobial resistance.
Multidrug resistant (MDR) pathogens are a global threat and a challenge for modern medicine. As MDR pathogens outpace the development of new therapeutics, it is critical to develop alternative treatment strategies. The Lane Lab studies both Plasmodium falciparum parasites, which cause malaria, and temperate bacteriophages of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. These two human MDR pathogens kill over a half-million people annually, creating a desperate need for new interventions.
We are a new lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID.
